Strengths: Loyal beyond a doubt, he would never betray his team even if it means sacrificing himself. Keeping family and friends safe is a lot more valuable to him than any amount of glory, power, or wealth. He always stands up for what he believes is right. You won’t catch him biting his tongue if he sees someone being treated unfairly even if that turns the situation unfavorable for himself. It takes him a long time to break down under pressure when he knows people are relying on him.

Weaknesses: Katsumi hates to lose to the point where he will fight to the death if that means he might get closer to winning. Besides his overwhelming desire to be the best there ever was, he’s also not very good at keeping his mouth shut. His blunt retorts and clashing opinions often lead to intense arguments and or fights. Even though he longs to have people to lean on, he has a hard time showing his more vulnerable sides and because of that he ends up pushing people away instead of opening up.

Background

A Distant Dream

Life used to be so normal. The things you took for granted as a carefree child now seemed like a dream. The cold snow under your feet and breathing in the cold Hokkaido air, the memories of your neighbors faces. Your classmates and the sea of red and black school bags passing by, going to club practice and running home to your family. Katsumi could hardly remember them. Most of it had felt so mundane at the time.

Katsumi was only eight at the time, and his brother only twelve or thirteen. The two lived together with their mother in Utashinai. The town was so painfully small, there was never anything to do other than explore the hills with his brother, watch old Gundam shows on the TV, and go to kendo practice or cram school depending on the day. Their father had long since moved to Tokyo, his business being more important than handling the family and the two youngsters didn’t seem to mind enough to complain but their mother wasn’t there often either. Maybe it’s because they often had to rely on each other for company that they were glued at the hip.

Wherever Tsunayoshi went, Katsumi would go too. Often times they got told how different they were from each other and thinking back on it he didn’t see why. Sure, his brother had always been horribly shy, but when it came to protecting what’s important to him, he never failed to step up and say something. Katsumi had admired him for that and maybe it’s because his brother would always stand up for him, that he was able to feel confident in doing what was right too. Life had been so peaceful then and he had taken it for granted until the day red lights blinded the sky.

Hell On Earth

Out of all his memories, this was the one of the most vivid. Sirens screaming, the ground shaking like a monster was trying to tear their home from the ground. At first he thought it was an earthquake since those are pretty common in Japan. Delirious and foggy with sleep he had opened his eyes and immediately knew something was wrong. The room was red with light shining in through the windows almost blinding him.

“Katsumi,” the voice of his older brother shouted from his bedroom door and before he could answer back, he felt Tsuna rip him from his bed.

He had never been the type to feel fear, but in this moment it had never been more real. Katsumi felt his small heart thudding against his ribcage, his hand trying to hold his glasses against his face so he could see clearly. “Tsuna,” he felt his throat tighten in worry, “What’s happening?”

Tsuna was putting on his shoes and urging Katsumi to do the same. Maybe it was because his brother was too scared to answer, or maybe he just didn’t know what to tell his little brother, but he didn’t answer as he pulled Katsumi out of the house and into streets full of their neighbors all gawking at the sky and the lights shining down on them. There were no stars, just a shape so large and so dark that it blocked out the sky and its lights that scanned the area were filled with what seemed like ants swarming. He realized later that those ‘ants’ were ships being sent down to capture humans to be taken away, though for what he wasn’t sure yet because his brother dragged him out over the cold and frosted fields and wet dirt until they reached the forest and there they stayed for several days.

Finally, hunger could not keep them in hiding any longer. The children fled back to their home in the middle of the night but the roads were as empty as their stomachs.

“Tsuna,” Katsumi murmured as they walked back into their dark home, “Where is everyone…?”

His brother opened up the dead fridge with a frown on his face and found some left overs for them to hopefully satisfy their stomachs for now. “I’m sorry, Katsumi-,” his voice trembled and almost echoed in their empty home, “I should’ve waited for mom to come home… I don’t know what to do.”

“It’s okay,” Katsumi whispered and as gently as he could, he held his brother’s hand, “If… if we wait here a little longer I’m sure she’ll come back.” It was an empty reassurance and they both knew that. They had both seen the small ships come down, they had seen from the safety of the forest that they had landed in their town, had seen them leave just the day before. Whoever was here that night, had been taken away, but they were going to wait, because what else were they going to do?

They hid and looted, met other ‘leftovers’ as they called them, and had managed to stay under the radar of their invaders for a year.

During a raid where they would leave hiding to get supplies in order to sustain the small community they had built, Katsumi lost his brother. Even now he dreams of it frequently. While they had grown comfortable with breaking into old homes and scavenging for cans of food, they hadn’t seen any invaders since that night. They walked back to camp with the other survivors, some old, some as young as they were, and they shared the food they had brought.

A foreign voice caused a wave of silence over the survivors. None dared to look outside and yet they all knew what it was. Another voice, this time one more familiar. Another survivor that had been staying in their camp. Katsumi could hear them begging for their life between their sobs. He also heard him bargain with the alien.

Katsumi didn’t have time to feel the betrayal of being sold out by his own people. The door fell down and there was chaos again. Screaming, crying , gunshots, and the eerie mechanical voices of the aliens.

He remembered shouting at the aliens. Cursing the person who sold them out. His brother holding him in a death grip and yet feeling his body being pulled away. He had never cried before. Even when things were hard and they were hungry, Katsumi had never cried because he didn’t want to be a burden on his brother but the moment he felt his hands clawing at empty air and he could see through burning tears that his brother was being taken away he cried harder than ever.

The hardest part about the labor camps wasn’t the work, it was feeling alone.

Katsumi no longer had the support of his older brother to make him feel safe. He had no family here, all the people here spoke different languages, they were all different languages, some of them were even different species. He closed himself off from the other laborers for a long time.

He just focused on his work day and night but once in a while he’d look up to see one of the laborers getting pushed around, either by a patrol unit or by another laborer. A part of him would get angry, but what could he do? He was only nine years old.

One night he dreamt of his brother, dreamt of a time before the invasion and before the Monsoros destroyed his life. In the dream he was a lot younger and his brother was sitting next to him watching a show together. For some reason Katsumi was angry at the show. “Why did that main character do that? He got beat up because he said that.”

In the dream his older brother who was still as shy and as nervous as always turned to him with a bright smile he hadn’t seen since the invasion, “Because he’s not scared of doing what’s right.”

Katsumi awoke peacefully for the first time in years. No nightmares, no sweaty palms, and no labored breathing. Just tranquility and the memory of his brother’s smile. From then on he started stepping in every time something unfair happened. At first he got kicked around a lot, by both other humans and the Monsoros watching them. Some ass-kickings were worse than others but he never stopped. He refused to be like the coward that sold out his family and him, and he refused to be the type of person that his brother would be disappointed in.

The years passed and eventually at the age of 14 he had finally gotten on the last straw of their captors. In the few years he had spent there he had gone from a small angry child to a teen with a big mouth for justice. Katsumi had many on his side. Young and old both agreed that living like this wasn’t what they wanted in life. They organized a riot and fought against the Monsoros but failed horribly and he was removed from the labor camps.

Prison was different and a lot more lonely than being in the labor camps though he didn’t like to admit it. The room was barren and dark. He couldn’t talk to anyone, and the distant sounds of screams kept him awake at night. Unlike the labor camps, the days passed by slowly and he lost track of how long he had been trapped here. It felt like years had passed by until they took him from the room. Katsumi thought for sure they would kill him but instead they seemed to be using him for tests. Usually it was just questions. How he was feeling physically, if he was able to solve certain problems, testing his mental health and the like. For the most part he didn’t remember what happened in the test rooms. It just fogged together into a vague memory of lights and chatter. Years passed like this, waking up feeling disoriented and by this point in time his eyes had grown so bad that he was blind. He couldn’t even make out the face of his savior.

Salvation

The Light was kind enough to give him new eyes, but it didn’t quite heal the emptiness and guilt of being one of the few saved when there were still millions of people still under the control of the Monsoros and also his guilt of never being able to thank the alien that freed him. Since then, he’s been committed to being a pilot for the academy, doing whatever he can to free others under control while searching for his family.

Roleplay

Style: Casual script, casual lit. Please I am lazy I don’t get into writing novels often though I will if I get into it. I have a habit of getting wordy so it’s for your own safety!!!

Method: If I don’t know you much I prefer to rp in the chatroom otherwise skype or discord for friends and one-on-one rp’s.

Availability: Pretty often. I’ll be in the chatroom if I want to rp.

Shipping Availability: Not available for a while. I’ll open him up to relationships after he gets some time to meet people. I’m scared of things moving too fast but I like slow relationships where they have a lot of tension and care a lot for each other. Also he’s greysexual so it takes him time to realize he likes people sometimes.
